INDIA PAVILION AT CARASSAUGA FESTIVAL OF CULTURES, 2011


This year again the National Association of Indo Canadians (NAIC) is hosting the Indian Pavilion at Carassauga Festival of Cultures, being held from June 3rd to June 5th at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto-No Indian pavilion would be complete without the typical Indian bazaar experience – so do come and shop for exquisite traditional jewellery, one-of-a-kind artifacts and clothes. Last year the India pavilion was visited by a record of over 25,000 visitors with over 300 performing artists in this Mega event.

The performances at the India Pavilion encompass all aspects of India and try to represent food, dance, music, and arts and crafts from all over India. This year the performances will include folk music and dances from all over India from Punjab to Kerala, pulsating Bollywood dance and song sequences, classical dances like Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Garba, a breathtaking fashion show and much much more!


We also invite you to explore the tantalizing food experiences with tandoori food and mouth watering snacks and an array of deserts and sweet dishes to make your day. Don’t forget to taste kulfi – traditional creamy ice-cream to end your day on a high note. Visit our pavilion for valuable information on famous monuments and historical places and make it your next destination. माणिक - White Canvas


चित्र - मीना द्वारा निर्मित

सपनों के सपाट कैनवास पर
रेखाएँ खींचता
असीम स्पर्श तुम्हारा
कभी झिंझोड़ता
कभी थपथपाता
कुछ खाँचे बनाता
आँकता हुआ चिन्हों को
रंगों से तरंगों को भिगोता रहा
एक रात का एक मख़मली एहसास।


     कच्ची पक्की उम्मीदों में बँधा
        सतरंगी सा उमड़ता आवेग
          एक छलकता, प्रवाहित इंद्रधनुष
          झलकता रहा गली-कूचों में
        बिखरी सियाह परछाइयों
     के बीच कहीं दबा दबा।


                रात रोशन थी
      श्वेत चाँदनी सो रही थी मुझमें
                    निष्कलंक!
                  अँधेरों की मुट्ठी में बंद
              जैसे माणिक हो सर्प के
           फन से उतरा हुआ।
 
सुबह का झुटपुटा
झुकती निगाहों में
बहती मीठी धूप
थम गया दर्पण दिन का
अपने अक़्स में गुम होता हुआ।

और तब
थका-हारा, भुजंग सा
दिन का यह सरसराता धुँधलका
सरकता रहा परछाइयों में प्रहर - प्रहर।
नींद में डूबी अधखुली आँखों के बीच
फासलों को निभाता यूँ दरबदर
साथ चलता रहा मेरे
एकटक आठों प्रहर।

White Canvas
 
Your vivid stroke
etched in my memory
bestirred my stark white canvas.
A passing night clasped me
replete with colours.
Raw impulses wide awake
splashed shades
tinting the sheet
toning the moods.

 A splendor bedded
with me all night.

A river
oozed out in heat.
My opaque vision.
grasped the forthcoming dawn.

A fatigue

tarried within me
throughout the day.

क्या था वह?

सिलेटी शाम के
   ढलते रंग
     निःशब्द, निशाचरी, निरी रात
         उदासीन, तठस्थ सफेद चेहरे
        अपरिचित नाम
        अनजान शब्द
         खड़े थे रूबरू हमारे।

        क्या था वह —?
         शायद कोई अनुनाद —?
          जिसे तुम छू भर कर निकल गए
           और मैं देख भी न पाई।
            कोलाहल की धूल से भरी
            इन आँखों में
            केवल थी तो कालिख ही
         शोर की धुन्ध हमें टिकटिकी लगाये
        लगातार देखती थी |

        शायद एक शुरूआत के छोर पर      
            खड़े होकर हम
       दूर किसी अंत को समेटते हुए
      फिर एक बार
      एक नई आस के करीब
       बना रहे थे
        एक नया सा नसीब।

Shades of black fading. 
Starkness of night! 
Neutrality spread
All over our faces.
Unrecognizable.

What was it?

You recognized
I did not?
Was my vision hazy?
Or I looked at the haze?
Perhaps
We are beginning
a new end.
